TOGETHER independent: Trine Tuxen
INTRODUCING: JEWELRY DESIGNER TRINE TUXEN
“My brand is about my stories, aesthetics, a way of connecting with others and a desire to touch someone in a way.” We love the Danish jewelry designer Trine Tuxen for her special creations. Fortune cookie shaped chain pendants or kale earrings: Trine has a great way of connecting the everyday life with moments of pure elegance. In our ALMOST interview she talks about her inspiration and motivation: women, nature and motherhood.
Who are you and what is your brand Trine Tuxen about?
I am someone who’s sensitive (cancer by zodiac sign), someone who dreams about living both in the city (where I’m born and raised) and the countryside to constantly have dirt under my nails and red cheeks. I’m someone who strives to do things in life I care for and to put a smile on my face. I am someone who has always believed that my job should be my hobby. My brand has been my hobby for the past 9 years. My brand is about my stories, aesthetics, a way of connecting with others and a desire to touch someone in a way.
What is the mission behind your designs?
My brand tells my own personal stories, that I believe many can relate to. The reason why I create is to express emotions and thoughts like: how to find the best balance in life, to feel that there is so much more between heaven and earth, to find peace within oneself and have strength in ones integrity, to tribute the sex of a woman, to tribute nature and what we eat and build ourselves with and latest the complexity of motherhood and how intertwined it makes one feel.
How did you come up with the idea to start your own jewelry brand?
One of my best friends encouraged me... or she gave me that little push, I sometimes need in life. It turned out to be one of the best life decisions so far.
Have you ever been employed in a big company or similarly before?
No, I have a background as a professional dancer. I worked freelance throughout my twenties. That strengthened me in terms of never knowing when the next job might come – to be bold and have the mental strength to believe that of course something will show up. I’ll make this work – I mean I had to!!! (laughs) I think I also really wanted to prove to my parents that I was capable of taking care of myself while following my dream. They had different ideas and hopes for me.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
It’s luckily very diverse, and that works best for me. I no longer make all pieces by hand, I have my lovely production in Thailand, which I’m SO grateful for. This makes it possible for me to focus on ALL the other things of running a business and also to become an even better leader for my employees.
A day could be a mixture of production meetings, sourcing new stones, dealing with customers, thinking of a new photo shoot, counting stock, ordering stationery, visiting my retailers (not at this very moment unfortunately), writing tons of emails, paying bills, weborders, meeting my accountant. The list goes on!
What are you especially proud of?
My V collection and my vulnerable, personal, “female-power speech” when I won the Elle Style Awards for the best jewelry collection in 2019. This moment still makes me smile and all wwwwiiiiiiii inside!
Also I’m proud of the organic growth of my company. I never make a move if I’m not ready and trust my intuition. I’m very proud of my team and thankful for all the support, love and help I receive.
What does independence mean to you?
Freedom and integrity.
But it’s also associated with vulnerability and a need of support. Haha, total opposites! (Typically me.)
What other inspiring independent label can you recommend?
MR. LARKIN – I love everything about this label. The design, the aesthetic, what it stands for. And as an extra PLUS, I’m lucky to call the designer and beautiful woman behind it my dear friend.
Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us!
